The Artists in the Attic are pleased to announce our upcoming auction is
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23

from 6 - 9 p.m.
This year's recipient will be the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington. A 501(c)3 organization, the Cinema's mission is to bring the best in cinematic artistry to Long Island and expand the awareness and consciousness of our community. You can visit their website at http://www.cinemaartscentre.org/.

Last year's auction for the Heckscher Museum of Art was a huge success and gave us the chance to invite along some guest artists to join in the celebration. We'd like to continue with that tradition, and invite everyone to join us for a fabulous night of refreshments, raffles and of course some fantastic art work. Paintings, sculpture, photography and maybe a surprise* or two will be available for bidding. Although the bidding starts at 6 p.m., all work will be available for preview from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. the day of the event.

So remember kids, keep the spirit of art and film alive... support your local artists and filmmakers. Important note: the auction is a one-night only event. All pieces will be sold that night so don't forget those wallets, folks.

I know, I know...it's Second Saturdays now. But, for this special event, The Artists in the Attic couldn't resist just one more First Friday, May 7 from 6-8 p.m. And what is this special event? Does it have something to do with that picture of the dog? You betchya! Volunteers from the fantastic animal rescue group Forgotten Friends of Long Island (visit their website at http://www.forgottenfriendsoflongisland.org/) will be on hand with info AND raffle baskets(!) for this charitable fundraising event. And, 10% of all artists' sales that night will also go to the cause. So come on down, bring your friends, and help some great folks help some great animals.

Grimm wins BID Honorarium

The Artists in the Attic’s own Cynthia Grimm (from the Pixelstick Gallery) is one of 4 awardees of a 2010 Huntington Station Business Improvement District art commission. Her painting, “Growing Together” will be featured on light pole banners throughout Huntington Station.
The BID plans to install the banners in April 2010.

Cynthia Grimm's "A Mother's Life" exhibit

The 2009 NYS Decentralization Grant for the Arts project "A Mother's Life" by the Attic's own Cynthia Grimm opens on Saturday, December 5 with a reception from 2-4 p.m. at the South Huntington Public Library, 145 Pidgeon Hill Road, Huntington Station.

As with her 2008 grant project, Grimm chose a group of women to document their journey through nine months of motherhood in photographs. The group met monthly for instruction, assignments, and artistic growth. The exhibit features 20 photos representing their work and their lives as women, leaders, mothers, creators.

The exhibit will run throughout the month of December, 2009

Join The Artists in the Attic and the antique dealers of Yankee Peddler as they welcome the Farmers Market to Huntington Station.
Every Saturday, July 25 - Labor Day from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. come out to the Church Street parking lot on New York Avenue (opposite Yankee Peddler) to browse through art and antiques, while you pick out the freshest local produce.

Last week was our first venture and we're off to a great start. Come out for some great artisan breads, souffle cheesecake, the freshest produce around from our local growers, and of course, pick up some great deals on art of all kinds.

A wonderful time was had by all as The Artists in the Attic welcomed their newest member, John Redlich and enjoyed the acoustic folk of Eli Maniscalco and Becca Hasselbrook.

Although the official First Fridays will be on hiatus for the summer, be sure to visit us at the Huntington Station Farmer's Market EVERY SATURDAY morning starting JULY 25, in the parking lot right across the street from Yankee Peddler. The artists and antique dealers will be setting up tents for a full show/sale all summer long.

Are you an artist or craftsperson with a following? Are you just starting out and want people to see your work? Are you an art teacher looking to show off your students’ work? If so, The Mezzanine at the Attic is the space for you.

The Artists in the Attic at Yankee Peddler Antiques are currently taking reservations to rent the Mezzanine Gallery space on a weekend basis. For $250 for a 3-day weekend (you choose Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday), you can display your work and host your own art reception in the Mezzanine. With over 200 feet of wall space to display hanging works and table space for smaller items, it’s a perfect spot for all types of art. The Artists in the Attic will also include your event in their mailings to local media, collectors, and gallery owners that currently receive their First Friday notices. The space is open to the public 7 days a week from 11 am - 5 pm and you may host your “opening night” reception from 5-7 pm.

Come on up to the Mezzanine… your art deserves it!

The Huntington Station Paint In continues

As mentioned in The Long-Islander and Newsday, Huntington Station is getting known for its artists.
This Sunday looks be sunny and near 60, so grab your easel, sketch pad, camera, journal, whatever your medium (and don’t forget your artistic friends) and head on down to New York Avenue (set up anywhere between East 19th and Olive Streets) to “let the art be seen.” Huntington Station is home to a vibrant art community, let people know about it!
This is an open invitation, call-to-action for all artists every weekend through spring and summer. Leave your name and number at Pixelstick Gallery (at The Artists in the Attic upstairs in the Yankee Peddler Building at 1038 NY Ave) if you create a piece that you would like to have considered for a juried show at the end of the summer, location to be announced.
The Avenue is our community: love it, embrace it…paint it!

A weekend of Art & Antiques on the Avenue…

First Huntington Station 'paint in' draws handful

Only a handful of people showed up Sunday for a "paint in" on New York Avenue in Huntington Station, according to organizer Cynthia Grimm, “but I'm hoping as the weather warms up more people will come out.”

Grimm, who suggested the event to counter recent coverage of violence in the area, had announced that the group would be repeating the paint in through the spring and summer and may mount an exhibit of their collective work. Two photos Grimm made are above, titled “Northridge Field” and “Red and Yellow.”

The Huntington Station photographer said she thought the group would apply for a permit to use the parking lot across from the Yankee Peddler for a combination flea market and art show.

Beginning this Sunday, March 22, noon til the light leaves, come on down to New York Avenue for an old fashioned “paint in!”
To help counteract the negative press lately concerning Huntington Station, Cynthia Grimm of The Artists in the Attic is organizing the Huntington Station version of a plein air event. Come with easels, watercolors, oils, sketch pads, journals, whatever your creative medium and set up along New York Avenue to take in the urban landscape. Let the motorists driving through to the village know that there’s more to our little town then bad press and empty lots…let the artists be seen!
Tell your friends, family, anyone who hasn’t given up yet on our Huntington Station. We’re expecting at least a dozen or so folks to come out, the more the merrier. You can even set up in groups of 2 or 3 if you prefer collaboration (just don’t block the sidewalk passage).
We’ll continue all spring and summer and maybe have a nice body of work from you all for an art show at The Artists in the Attic at the end of the summer. If we paint it, they will come…
